ATLANTA, Georgia — Borne Freestyle Entertainment is excited to announce that Discovery Channel will feature Pro-Athlete Streetbike Freestyler, Josh Borne, on Ultimate Car Build Off on July 19 & 26, 2010 at 9 p.m.

Josh Borne had the unique opportunity to provide Discovery Channel engineering advice on a colossal wheelie machine build when two Detroit garages, Monkeywrench Racing and Voodoo Choppers, went head to head for a one-of-a-kind build off challenge.

Borne used his engineering background and experience from Kettering University and General Motors to help contestants create the ultimate machine. Monkeywrench Racing and Voodoo Choppers were tasked with merging two motorcycles into a single four-wheeled vehicle in an effort to win $100,000. The garages goal: to wheelie the longest distance down Michigan’s historic Grosse IIe Municipal Airport runway. Training for this task took place on beautiful Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan. Of course protective gear was generously provided to the hosts and contestants by Josh Borne’s sponsor, Scorpion Sports Inc.

Not only was Borne Discovery Channel’s expert in the garages, but he also taught hosts, Andrew Comrie-Picard a.k.a. ACP (X-Games Pro-Rally Racer) and Lou Santiago (Top Hot Rod Fabricator), the basics of pro-streetbike freestyle. “Streetbike Freestyle is amazing. Learning under Josh Borne was a great experience. I can’t wait to learn how to stoppie next.” remarked ACP. Lou Santiago stated, “I was surprised at how much talent and balance it takes. It was great learning from Josh Borne.”

World renowned fabricator and car designer Chip Foose flew in for the finale and judged the competition. Foose was fully impressed with Borne’s technical grasp of the extreme sport. He commended the professionalism of the sport and complimented Borne on his freestyle abilities.

Heads Up From The Home Of The Brand!

(Lake Forest, CA July 14, 2010) Heads up! X Games 16 kicks off at the end of this month with a change of venue to the Los Angeles Coliseum for the Moto X Freestyle and Super X competition. The move to this historic Olympic facility also created an opportunity for a special “X-hibition” for the top riders in the Streetbike Stunting Championship series. Scorpion-sponsored Stunters such as Eric “E-Brake” Pettit, Chris “Teach” McNeil, Josh Borne, Billy “Hollywood” Wynn and “Sick” Rick Hart are expected to headline the exhibition starting on July 29th.

“Although not part of the official TV programming on ESPN, this is a very positive step in getting freestyle stunting added to the X Games in the future,” explains Scorpion’s marketing/media relations gal Suzie Kirby. “They are expecting 50,000+ people to be at the Coliseum for the kick-off festivities, so that is a nice crowd to play to.” However, since the X Games opportunity was added after the 2010 season was already in progress, the XDL appearance at the LA Coliseum will not count toward the points championship or be a part of any of the official programming.

July 14th UPDATE!
We have visited lot 4 at the coliseum and have spy pics! One of the pics shows the lot, and then we noticed some strange orange tape on the ground. It appears to be marking off a large rectangle as we can tell.

We got into a small scuffle with security as we were trying to find all of the marks in the lot. So we could not verify exact dimensions!

Whats cracking everyone? The stuntride crew is in Los Angeles hunting down any and all X-Games and stuntriding info..

We stopped by the XDL offices and swiped a peek of the official press release for the upcoming sportbike freestyle demo.

Here are the details that we gathered:

The XDL stunt riding demo will be at the LA Coliseum on Thursday, July 29th, as an official part of X Games 16. The XDL program will begin at noon and be in Lot 4. This lot is beside the swimming stadium off of MLK blvd at Hoover St. We will go get some pics this afternoon.

According to our sources at X games this area is an exhibitor based area and should be packed. It opens at noon and admission to this area and XDL is free!!

We havent gotten any info on parking yet. So assume you have to pay!

According to rumors about XDL we know that its just a demo but we think that they are going to run an amended version of their full events competitions. These are normally..

It has been about a month and a half since we added the new Kawasaki to the Borne Freestyle family and I have gotten about a good solid month of training on it with the Sick Innovations clip-ons. Previously, I had a Honda F4i with 929 front end and stock Kawasaki clip-ons flipped, so I feel I can give a good comparison between stock flipped 636 clip-ons and these new SI side mount clip-ons.

At first, I initially tried out the front mount clip-ons and decided against them considering the clearance issue with the upper fairing. I thought having the front mounts would be better for pull throughs given the extra spacing. After riding on them for a few weeks now, I am happy I went with the side mounts. I have been able to keep the full fairing look and combo pull throughs are just as easy as if I had the stock Kawi clip-ons flipped….if not more so. I went with the 7-degree sweep because I was trying to keep the feel as close to stock (flipped) as possible, plus I simply like the rise rather than the flat feel. I also positioned the new SI clip-ons on top of the flipped triple because that is about as close as I could get to my old riding position.

The stock front rubber brake line still works, as well as the clutch and throttle cables. I routed my handbrake line and throttle cables through the inside of the forks, underneath the lower triple. The clutch cable is fairly long, and I routed it all the way around the forks and back to the clutch cover. I did modify the upper by cutting it down to give a little more room to push the clip-ons out. I also adjusted the front brake master downward to clear the right side of the upper. The new cut out design on the lower area of the mount worked perfectly for this because it allowed for the banjo bolt and master to fit snugly into position. It also helped out on the left hand side for hand brake master placement.

During the first ride, it took a little bit to get used to. They seemed much wider than the Kawi clip-ons I was previously running. I thought about cutting the bars down and narrowing them up a bit, but decided against because I thought the wide stance would be optimal for stoppies once I became acclimated with the new set up. In hindsight, that is probably the best course of action. Now that I’m used to the wide stance, I have much more steering control for stoppies and a lot more leverage for pushing and pulling circles around. My sit-down circle game has skyrocketed in the last couple weeks and I have to say the addition of the clip-ons has helped.

The one and only downfall I have noticed with the wide stance of the SI Side Mounts is that while performing stand-up circles to the left, the right clip-on tends to catch my right hip. Makes no hands a little more difficult, but it is manageable.

One side note to be sure of….make sure to have a radial front brake master. My 2003 Kawi master worked great, but you will have problems with trying to use a master off an F4i, 929, or 954.

In my opinion, the Sick Innovations Side Mount Clip-ons are a fantastic upgrade for any freestyle machine. They definitely give an edge for stoppie and wheelie control. There are multiple options for rider comfort. Whether you are tall or short, prefer high dirt bike position or the low superbike feel, Sick Innovations has you covered.

X-Games 16 to take over downtown L.A.

From July 29 to Aug. 1, ESPN will celebrate its 16th annual action sports event entirely downtown between the STAPLES Center, Nokia Theatre, the Los Angeles Coliseum and L.A. LIVE. The 2010 event marks the seventh consecutive year that the X Games will take place in Los Angeles. Thirty-one hours of live HD programming on ESPN and ESPN2 will be aired over the four days of the event, as well as on ESPN International, ESPN.com\action, ESPN Classic, ESPN3.com, and SportsCenter.

“It has been seven years since we first had X Games events at the Los Angeles Coliseum, and ESPN couldn’t be more thrilled to be returning this year with several of our sports,” said Jack Wienert, ESPN executive director, X Games Event Management. “As the X Games franchise continues to grow, we are proud and excited about our continued great relationship with AEG as we expand our presence this year downtown at STAPLES Center and L.A. LIVE.”

Last year, X Games 15 was ESPN’s most-watched in history. ESPN increased its X Games coverage to almost ten hours, compared to six and seven in the previous two years. Overall, X Games 15 averaged a 1.0 rating on ESPN, making it the most-viewed X Games ever among viewers. This year, there will be a 14-hour increase to the broadcast, including four hours of coverage on SportsCenter.

Tickets for X Games 16 will be available for purchase June 24 at all Ticketmaster locations and the box offices at STAPLES Center and Nokia Theatre. The first wave of invited athletes will be announced in May.

Ok so at this very moment we can neither confirm nor deny the wild rumors that some of the worlds best XDL Motorcycle Stunt riders have been invited to ride in some fashion at X Games 16 in Los Angeles at the LA Coliseum. While we do know that Streetbike Stuntriders have considered riding at the X Games a somewhat unobtainable goal over the past 10-12 years of organized competitions. The XDL Series has helped to elevate the level of professionalism of Sportbike Freestyle Athletes and the competitions that they ride in. Our fingers are crossed, we hear that there are last minute discussions going on with management on both sides.

We understand that it is still undecided, but with X Games 16 being only 1 month away, we wanted to remind you all (and maybe some new fans) exactly what stuntriding has going for it.

ABATE OF INDIANA: To Promote Motorcycle Safety & Awareness

ABATE (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education) of Indiana is a not-for-profit, safety, educational, charitable and advocacy motorcyclist organization. It’s aims are to promote safety, protect rights and help others.

ABATE of Indiana represents approximately 20% of the registered motorcycles in Indiana, with a membership of over 27,000. ABATE has a full-time staff, 350 volunteer officers, and over 150 certified safety instructors, dedicated to serving the interests of all motorcyclists.

ABATE of Indiana’s motorcycle safety program has received numerous national awards of excellence and many of the instructors have received the nation’s highest honors. Nearly 70,000 students have graduated since it’s inception in 1979. In 1986, the Indiana Department of Education became involved with the program, resulting in a dramatic decrease in motorcycle fatalities which continues today.

ABATE of Indiana has been the driving force in making May “Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month” and is responsible for the distribution of over 500,000 bumper stickers promoting motorcycle awareness.

In 1976 ABATE was responsible for the repeal of the state’s mandatory helmet law and continues to defend the equal rights of motorcyclists – preserving their freedom of choice. ABATE of Indiana believes education, not legislation, is the key to creating a safer environment for motorcycling.

In addition to promoting motorcycle safety and education, ABATE has also been involved with collect­ing money for charities and those in need. Over the years, ABATE has raised over $4,000,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association! ABATE has also raised and contributed over $45,000 for individuals and families in times of need. Tons of food and truck loads of toys are donated each year at Christmas time, through toy collection programs. In addition, ABATE has contributed over $50,000 to community charities, and has been instrumental in raising $2,500,000 for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

XDL Nashville  – “Motorcyclists Give Back”

Los Angeles, CA (May 6, 2010) — On May 1st and 2nd torrential rains hit Nashville and Middle Tennessee triggering a hundred year flood. We’ve all seen the images on TV and on the web. With a competition scheduled for May 14 & 15 at Nashville Superspeedway, XDL has been thrust in the middle of one of the worst natural disasters to ever hit the area. For those traveling to Nashville that are worried about the impact of the flooding, please rest assured that all XDL activities listed in this release will take place as planned. More importantly, Nashville needs us now and it is time to lend a hand. Even if you are just riding in to enjoy the weekend, you’ll be spending money on lodging, food and entertainment and that helps the local economy. 2010 marks the third year of XDL in Nashville and over that time we have built a lot of relationships in the area and it is home to some of our most avid fans. So it didn’t take us long to figure out that we needed to do our share to help. One thing led to another and in conjunction with our friends at WBUZ/WPRT, Precision Motorsports and Revolution MC we are starting “Motorcyclists Give Back”, an effort to get the motorcycle community nationwide to lend a helping hand in this horrible situation. As part of the XDL event, we will do the following:

Through the work of Habitat, thousands of low-income families have found new hope in the form of affordable housing. Churches, community groups and others have joined together to successfully tackle a significant social problem – decent housing for all.

Today, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 300,000 houses, sheltering more than 1.5 million people in more than 3,000 communities worldwide.

The concept that grew into Habitat for Humanity International was born at Koinonia Farm, a small, interracial, Christian community outside of Americus, Georgia. Koinonia Farm was founded in 1942 by farmer and biblical scholar Clarence Jordan. The Fullers first visited Koinonia in 1965. They had recently left a successful business and an affluent lifestyle in Montgomery, Alabama to begin a new life of Christian service. At Koinonia, Jordan and Fuller developed the concept of “partnership housing.” The concept centered on those in need of adequate shelter working side by side with volunteers to build simple, decent houses.

The houses would be built at no profit and interest would not be charged on the loans. Building costs would be financed by a revolving fund called “The Fund for Humanity.” The fund’s money would come from the new homeowners’ house payments, no-interest loans provided by supporters and money earned by fund-raising activities. The monies in the Fund for Humanity would be used to build more houses.

In 1968, Koinonia laid out 42 half-acre house sites with four acres reserved as a community park and recreational area. Capital was donated from around the country to start the work. Homes were built and sold to families in need at no profit and no interest. The basic model of Habitat for Humanity was begun.

In 1973, the Fullers decided to apply the Fund for Humanity concept in developing countries. The Fuller family moved to Mbandaka, Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo.) The Fullers’ goal was to offer affordable yet adequate shelter to 2,000 people. After three years of hard work to launch a successful house building program, the Fullers returned to the United States.

In September 1976, Millard and Linda called together a group of supporters to discuss the future of their dream. Habitat for Humanity International as an organization was born at this meeting. The eight years that followed, vividly described in Millard Fuller’s book, “Love in the Mortar Joints,” proved that the vision of a housing ministry was workable. Faith, hard work and direction set HFHI on its successful course.

In 1984, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn took their first Habitat work trip, the Jimmy Carter Work Project, to New York City. Their personal involvement in Habitat’s ministry brought the organization national visibility and sparked interest in Habitat’s work across the nation. HFHI experienced a dramatic increase in the number of new affiliates around the country.

WHAT IS HABITAT FOR HUMANITY:

• A nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry.

• They seek to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

• To accomplish these goals, they invite people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.

• Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller, along with his wife, Linda.

• Today, they have built over 350,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1.75 million people in 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.

HOW DOES IT WORK:

• Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses alongside their homeowner (partner) families.

• Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor (sweat equity) into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.

• Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans.

• The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build more Habitat houses.

HOW ARE PARTNER FAMILIES SELECTED:

• Families in need of decent shelter apply to local Habitat affiliates.

• The affiliate’s family selection committee chooses homeowners based on their level of need, their willingness to become partners in the program and their ability to repay the loan.

• Every affiliate follows a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection.

• Neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing the families who receive Habitat houses.
